Jake Loggins to Appear at America the Beautiful Park

Jake Loggins, local music prodigy who leads the Jake Loggins Band, will appear at the Freedom from Poverty Community Celebration on July 8 in America the Beautiful Park.

Jake has a quite a local following, playing regularly at Southside Johnny’s, the Dublin House, Jack Quinns and other music locations around Colorado Springs. Jake says, “When it comes to the music, we just try and stay conscious of each other and pretty much just hold on for the ride.”

Jake is scheduled to go on stage at 4pm. Come down to ATB Park for some good music, good beer, and a good time while supporting a great cause – reducing poverty in our community.

Catholic Charities Rides to Reduce Poverty

Many of you have already heard about our participation in Cycling for Change (C4C), a nationwide bike ride to bring awareness to the issue of poverty in America. What you may not know is our CEO, Jason Christensen, will be participating in this 5,000 mile bike ride in 100 days, from Memorial Day to Labor Day. We hope you will support him in this endeavor by sponsoring him with a flat donation or an amount per mile. All proceeds will go to the Marian House Poverty Reduction Programs.

We already have a page on this website that is dedicated to the C4C ride. Check back often for updates on plans and progress. Jason will be blogging and vlogging about his experiences on the journey. Cycling For Change – Independence From Poverty Ride Colorado Springs

Check it out and become a fan! When Jason and the national team of 12 riders arrive in Colorado, we will meet them in Castle Rock with our two-day Independence from Poverty ride. It will begin on July 7th from Colorado Springs with a metric century to Castle Rock where participants will have dinner and spend the night. The next day, July 8th, the national team and the local Independence from Poverty riders will return to Colorado Springs after breakfast, ending up at America the Beautiful Park for the Independence from Poverty Community Celebration from about 3pm to 8pm. Plans include having beverages and food, along with several bands. On July 8th, there will also be a Family Fun ride beginning at the Marian House, continuing through Monument Valley Park, ending up at the Independence from Poverty Community Celebration.

Ft. Carson Reaches Out to Help the Homeless

The 1st Brigade Combat Team 4th Infantry Division of Ft. Carson – 200 to 300 soldiers, delivered clothing and supplies for the homeless to the Marian House. The soldiers assembled at Dorchester Park, then marched down the trail by Fountain Creek to the Marian House, carrying all the donations in the packs on their backs.

The soldiers arrived at the Marian House about 9:15 am, then began unloading the donations onto tables that had been set up in the front of the building. Once all the donations had been delivered, soldiers were treated to coffee, hot chocolate and sack lunches.

Immediately after the donations had been collected, patrons of the Marian House were able to pick out items they wanted. One mother, with two young children, was able to find a doll for her daughter, and an Elmo stuffed animal for her son, as well as various items of clothing.

“Ft. Carson is a wonderful partner in our community and to Marian House. We can not begin to thank them enough for all they do. This march today, to help the less fortunate in our community, is just another example of their generous spirit,” said Jason Christensen, CEO of Catholic Charities.
